Need Stimulates Creativity Part II

Caregiving necessarily begins with a heart that can be touched by the needs of others. Knowing this, a caregiver instructor makes every attempt to identify possible hindrances to a compassionate caregiver’s ability to provide care. One such hindrance is in the area of knowledge acquisition; specifically, knowledge related to caregiving skills or procedures. As caregiver instructors for the Schmieding Home Caregiver Training Program-Little Rock, we focus on our students’ ability to learn safe caregiving skills so that they can provide safe care. One such method is a blitz formation during specified lab practice sessions. The blitz enables each student to have hands on practice during their assigned skills lab while the instructor physically guides the practice as the expert for the proper execution of the skill. This method involves the set-up and use of up to six identical stations. The instructor guides the practice session and the students simultaneously execute the skill along with the instructor.
