Gaining Insight: Start a career path by becoming an In Home Assistant (IHA)

An In Home Assistant (IHA) provides care to someone with a chronic illness or disease, may assist in managing medications or talking with the person’s doctor or nurse, help bathe or dress someone that is unable to do so themselves and help manage light house work, food preparation and bill management for someone that can no longer function in this capacity independently. Benefits of attaining an IHA certificate are that students receive training on proper body mechanics while lifting and turning patients, safety techniques for wheelchair use, adequate nutrition/hydration, how to safely perform passive range of motion exercises and knowledge on handling emergency situations effectively (this list is not all inclusive).

Students who successfully complete the 40 hour In-Home Assistant class (IHA) can receive pay for the caregiving they provide under the Rules and Regulations for Home Caregiver Training in Arkansas per the Arkansas Dept. of Health 2014 Arkansas code ANN. 20-77-2101.
