Alzheimer’s and Dementia Graduates
These ladies recently completed their certification in Alzhiemer’s and Dementia care. During the course these students were given basic information on the types and causes of dementia, practical tips on managing challenging behaviors such as wandering and resistance to daily hygiene. Participants also received instruction and demonstration of communication techniques, environmental modification, and activities. Completing the course were:
Michelle Hughes, Kathy Seymore, Lucy Clayton, Lisa Holderfield, Ariana Chandler, Doreen Gray, Roxana Rodriguez, Jillian Thomas, Corina Johnson, and Calandra Graham.
The September course was dedicated to the memory of our Administrative Coordinator, Valerie Fielder’s mother, Mattie Brown who passed away from this horrific disease just the day prior to this course.
“This is the most important part of this course in my opinion,” said Fielder. I asked them to pay attention because in their careers, they will always be working with someone who has a form of dementia at some point. “Learning to properly recognize and care for someone so they can have dignity and quality of life while battling this disease will become priceless to you in your jobs.” After spending 10 years as a family caregiver, Valerie knows the importance of good caregivers for times of respite and quality care.
