A Success Story

Lonna

Lonna Barber

After graduating in June with a certification as a Geriatric Home Caregiver, Lonna Barber easily found a new job.  She applied at a local, non-medical home health agency whom she said was impressed with her portfolio of certificates.  These included continuing education programs she had participated in thru UAMS Schmeiding Home Caregiver Training Program.

They put her to work right away with 2, 3 then up to 5 clients per week.  Lonna came by the office to tell us that within 3 weeks of graduation she was working full time, had good benefits, was paid mileage and was receiving a higher wage than others who were already working there due to her quality education and hands-on knowledge as a caregiver.

Lonna plans to participate in future continuing education programs at Schmieding to stay abreast of topics she may need in the future.  She came to our program planning to obtain her CNA license and work in a Nursing Home or other medical setting.  Lonna told us she was a little uneasy about working in someone’s home but those fears were soon extinguished after starting her new career in home care.   Dressed professionally in crisp scrubs and possessing a confidence that made us all proud, she said she absolutely loves it.  Congratulations Lonna!!
