Memorial Day Fun for Senior Adults
Celebrate Memorial Day in a fun way with your aging loved one. Consider what activities they may be physically able to participate in and make this holiday a special, stress-free time for both of you. Some ideas to consider are:
- Fly the US Flag at half-staff- get them engaged with putting up the flag and taking it down.
- Visit cemeteries and place flags or flowers on the graves of our fallen heroes
- Have a red, white and blue themed picnic.
- Participate in a “National Moment of Remembrance” at 3 p.m. to pause and think upon the true meaning of the day, and find a rendition of Taps to be played.
- Watch local parades if possible or travel a short distance to an area that hosts one.
- Renew a pledge to aid the widows, widowers, orphans of our fallen dead, and to aid the disabled veterans.
- Be mindful of the weather and plan accordingly with items such as sunscreen, water, sunglasses, etc.
