Senior Expo To Be Held November 8 in Jonesboro
Jonesboro, AR – Plans are underway for the 3rd annual Center on Aging Senior Expo. Vendor booths, health screenings, flu shots, door prizes, FREE catfish lunch and Bingo are just a few of the things planned for this years event to be held November 8 from 9 am til 2 pm at the Nettleton Baptist Church, 7001 E, Johnson in Jonesboro.
“We’re going to be hootin’ and hollerin’ our way to good health this year at our expo,” says Samantha Hollis, BSN, RN, CDP – co-chair of the event and Director of the UAMS Center on Aging-Northeast. The event always includes a major theme to be used throughout and this years theme is western based said Hollis. “Our goal at the Center on Aging is to help senior adults have healthier, better quality of life and this expo is just another way we strive to accomplish that goal,” says Hollis. “We all have grandparents, parents, friends and/or others in our lives that could benefit from the invaluable resources we will showcase all in one day.”
Vendor booths in the areas of Alzheimer’s programs, Banking, Caption Phones, Chiropractic, Durable Medical Equipment, Funeral Planning, Personal Care services, Long term care planning, clinics/hospitals and more will be featured at the 2019 Expo.
“When we started planning our first expo in 2017, we wanted to provide many valuable resources to our senior adult population and/or their caregivers all under one roof,” says co-chair Valerie Fielder, BS, CDP of UAMS Center on Aging. “We hoped it would be the first of many annual events and now we are in our 3rd year and the participation continues to grow each year,” said Fielder. “We hope you will mosey on over and join us in November.”
Held during November, which is National Family Caregiver month, the Senior Expo is intended for family members and senior adults alike to be able to find assistance with many facets of their caregiving or aging journey. As our population ages, many seniors do not want to be a burden to their family, therefore making preparations for this time in their life is important to them. Not to mention free food and some bingo, plus a special guest appearance by John T. Wayne, grandson of the infamous John Wayne “The Duke” movie star.
The vendors are encouraged to follow the Western Theme and have a little fun. New this year is also a social media challenge for vendors, sponsors, community groups or schools to do the #Expogitupchallenge which is a take off of a current You-tube sensation: the Git Up Challenge Dance. There are prizes available and you can check out the challenge that Samantha and Valerie issued at this link: #Expogitupchallenge
