Stay Safe in the Summer Heat

Older adults are more prone to heat related illnesses due to several factors in the summer months.  Existing health conditions and vulnerability to new ones are common in the summer.  Several measures can be taken to avoid health related complications which include:

  • Staying inside during peak hours of the day
  • Wearing sunglasses to prevent damaging the eyes
  • Drinking as many as 8 glasses of water a day
  • Keep the AC &/or fans going to stay cool
  • Take frequents breaks during exercise or outside chores
  • Stay in Touch with family or neighbors in case of needing someone for an emergency.
