Alzheimer’s and Dementia Training at LifeTouch Hospice

On Thursday, August 17th, Bethany Moore, RN, CDP, trained 16 LifeTouch Hospice staff members on how to effectively engage and interact with those living with Alzheimer’s & Dementia and their care partners. Health care professionals of the LifeTouch Hospice were in attendance to help our community continue moving forward in becoming Dementia Friendly. Mrs. Moore highlighted the need for different communication techniques, ways to identify caregiver burnout and stress, elder abuse, and neglect, and much more.

As the number of dementia cases continues to increase nationwide and worldwide, there is a great need for caregivers, healthcare front line staff, clergy, and law enforcement who are well trained to provide appropriate, competent, and sensitive direct care and support for patients living with dementia.  By planning and developing the right physical and social infrastructure, local health care providers can make communities more livable for people with dementia and their care partners.

This training was hosted in El Dorado at LifeTouch Hospice, and was sponsored by the South Arkansas Center on Aging Education Center, a program of the Arkansas Aging Initiative at UAMS Reynolds Institute on Aging.
