March Graduates Gain Confidence and Skills
Say hello to our amazing March HCA Graduates! These dedicated ladies successfully completed 116 hours of training at the Schmieding Home Caregiver Training Center, and are now ready to conquer the state CNA exam. We are beyond proud of these ladies we now call friends, and wish them the best as they move forward in their career.
Are you curious about the world of caregiving and the jobs available? CNA’s (Certified Nurses Aide) are in demand in homes and long-term care facilities across the state. With our training, you can be prepared for both!
Students at the SHCT center receive a unique training experience thanks to our incredible facilities. We have three classes certified by the Arkansas Office of Long Term Care to prepare students to be licensed caregivers and certified Geriatric Home Caregivers. Our teaching facility includes a CareHouse for our nurse instructors to train studentsincludes a fully functioning kitchen, a comfortable furnished living area, a bathroom complete with tub-shower, and two skills-practice bedrooms. All of these areas include mannequins, assistive devices and furniture to help simulate caring for a senior adult in the home or clinical setting. Skills you will master as part of our certified program include:
- Transferring safely from chair or bed to wheelchair or stretcher
- Assistance in feeding
- Shower with assistance
- How to use assistive devices
- Infection Control
- Caring for a person with Alzheimer’s and Dementia
- Dressing and undressing
- Making a bed – occupied or unoccupied
- Wheelchair safety
- Personal Care- hair-dressing, hand, foot, and oral care
- Taking vital signs
- Specimen collection
- Using a mechanical lift
