Wanda Young Scholarship

In 2009, the family of Wanda Young generously established a scholarship fund for caregivers participating in the Schmieding Center for Senior Health & Education’s (hereafter, “the Center”) Home Caregiving Training Program. Because Ms. Young was well cared for by Eva, a Schmieding trained caregiver, the family recognized that superior caregiving is the result of superior training. Their generous gifts help the Center to continue in our mission of providing quality home caregivers for older adults in northwest Arkansas. This was the vision of the Center’s founder, Mr. Lawrence Schmieding, to keep older adults healthy, happy, and at home for as long as possible.  He said it best with the Center’s motto, “Where there’s home, there’s hope.”

The Wanda Young Scholarship (WYS) is available to applicants seeking participation in the In-Home Assistant (IHA) training course offered through the Center’s Home Caregiving Training Program. This 40 hour course is required by the state of Arkansas for individuals desiring to become personal care aides and is the first of three courses offered by the Center toward CNA certification. This basic course includes lecture, hands-on skill practice, and competency assessments to prepare graduates to work in a home setting.
