Walter Turnbow Scholarship

Walter Turnbow is a prominent figure in Springdale and a long time business partner of the Schmieding Center for Senior Health & Education (hereafter, “the Center”) founder, Lawrence Schmieding. Mr. Turnbow embraced Mr. Schmieding’s vision for programs and services from the Center by serving on multiple councils and committees over the years. Mr. Turnbow’s dedication to the Center has made him truly invaluable. The Walter Turnbow Sustainability Fund was established in his honor to provide financial assistance for education programs at the Center. This fund is a memorial to Mr. Turnbow’s commitment to the Center’s mission to improve the quality of life for older adults and their families in Northwest Arkansas through education and patient care.

The Walter Turnbow Scholarship (WTS) is available to applicants participating in the Center’s Alzheimer’s/Dementia (AD) and Home Care Assistant (HCA) courses. These courses represent the second and third steps in the unique Schmieding program and are required for CNA certification. Applicants are eligible for these courses after completing the In-Home Assistant training. The AD course is comprised of 16 hours of lecture. The HCA is an additional 60 hours of coursework. HCA students will spend 16 of their 60 course hours in a clinical setting. This hands-on approach enhances learning and adds to the uniqueness of the Schmieding Home Caregiver Training Program.
