Kennedy and members of the National Council of Senior Citizens joined to designate May as &#8220;Senior Citizens Month,&#8221; the prelude to &#8220;Older Americans Month.&#8221;\u00a0 Every President since has issued a formal proclamation during the month of May, asking that the entire nation pay tribute in some way to older persons in their communities.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s theme, <strong>AGE OUT LOUD, <\/strong>shines a light on many important trends. More than ever before, older Americans are working longer, trying new things, taking charge, striving for wellness, focusing on independence and advocating for themselves and others. What it means to age has changed, and OAM is a perfect opportunity to recognize and celebrate what getting older looks like today.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the month of May, the Schmieding Center will showcase stories submitted by local aging adults on how they are Aging Out Loud.\u00a0 We want to share how older adults in our community are redefining aging &#8211; and recognize and celebrate what getting older looks like by displaying the stories\u00a0 in our lobby and by posting on our Facebook page.\u00a0 We encourage the participation of all local older adults\u00a0 to share their story, (maximum of 250 words), by filling out the form at this link:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/uamscaregiving.org\/springdale\/age-out-loud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Older Americans Month Age out Loud (Online Form)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you prefer to give the form to an older adult, you may print it from here: <a href=\"https:\/\/uamscaregiving.org\/springdale\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2017\/04\/Older-Americans-Month-Age-out-Loud-sheet-.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Older Americans Month Age Out Loud (Printable Form)<\/a> then, once completed, you may drop it by the Schmieding Center, email to dhbufford@uams.edu, or fax to 479-751-3249.<\/p>\n<p>We will be sharing the stories in our lobby and on our Facebook page.\u00a0 We ask that you join us in paying tribute to the older adults in your life and communities.\u00a0 Thank them for their contribution, for inspiring others and importantly, for AGING OUT LOUD!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Older Americans Month (OAM) was established in 1963 when President John F.
