Single Parent Scholarship [External]

The Schmieding Center for Senior Health & Education (hereafter, “the Center”) is pleased to include the Single Parent Scholarship Fund as an option for single moms and dads to participate in the Center’s Home Caregiver Training Program. The Single Parent Scholarship Fund offers aide to those seeking a professional certification in a number of areas. Qualified applicants are eligible for a one time award of $500 that can be applied to any of the courses offered in the Center’s Home Caregiver Training Program.

Things to Consider

  • Applicants that have an associate’s or bachelor’s degree do not
  • Applicants holding a professional certification will only be considered if they are seeking a higher level certification.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Single Parent status
    • Defined by the funding body as: a family with children under age 18 and/or severely disabled adult child over 18, headed by a parent who is widowed or divorced and not remarried, or by a parent who has never been married and is caring for the children without assistance of another parent in the home.
  • Legal US resident OR a resident of DACA status living in Carroll, Madison, or Washington county, Arkansas
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Living at or near the poverty line (up to 200% of Federal Poverty Guidelines)
  • Applicant is pursuing a career-oriented course of study (full or part-time) to ensure a better standard of living for your family

  • A copy of valid photo ID
  • A copy of applicant’s most recent Federal Tax return (1040)
  • Signed memo attached to the application

  • The Single Parent Scholarship Fund requires applicants to complete an in-person interview which will be scheduled as part of the application process.
