This outreach project is part of our mission to empower caregivers &#8211;<em>also called care partners<\/em>&#8211; with information about <strong>PROVIDING CARE <\/strong>to their loved ones as they manage the <strong>STRESS <\/strong>which can result from the day-to-day responsibilities of caregiving.<\/p>\n<p>Our<strong> Family Caregiver Workshop: Dementia<\/strong> can be provided at various venues in the community and one of those venues and partnerships is with the North Metro Medical Center in Jacksonville, Arkansas.\u00a0 We are very appreciative of our connection with them because it provides a site where the Schmieding Home Caregiver Training Program can instruct family caregivers about dementia. <strong>Rosie Carter<\/strong>(left), home health and community educator; <strong>Carolyn Torrence, <\/strong>B.S.W. (right), community educator and screener; and Pat Brown, L.P.N., Schmieding Center instructor (Little Rock), all worked together to coordinate this outreach event at the North Metro site. We are extremely grateful for their efforts that ensure we have caregivers of all types in attendance. As a bonus, they secure refreshments and an appetizing lunch for the workshop attendees!<\/p>\n<p>The UAMS Schmieding Home Caregiver Training Program-Little Rock dementia workshop provides information about the <em>Care of the Person with Dementia<\/em>. We train the caregiver concerning the various types of dementia, caregiver stress &amp; burnout, nutrition, communication techniques, behavior issues, activities and more. Pat Brown facilitates these workshops. Attendees are provided with a resource packet, a Schmieding bag and a handbook summarizing the information presented during the workshop so the participants have resources to refer to after the event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Family Caregiver Workshop: Dementia is one of our ways of providing education, training and resource information about dementia to the community.
