Chan School of Public Health, maintaining five healthy habits can add up to 14 years of life for women and 12 years for men.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s dig in!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Eat a Healthy Diet:<\/strong>\u00a0 We all want to eat healthier.\u00a0 But we live in a place with fish fries, rich sauces and gravies, and a love of butter.\u00a0 But we can make some smart changes in the way we cook to change the unhealthy meal to a healthier meal.\u00a0 Join the South Arkansas Center on Aging and Healthworks Fitness Center the second Tuesday of every month for Healthy Eating and Tasting (HEAT) and learn to prepare easy, healthier meals.\u00a0 It&#8217;s FREE, just call Lori at 870-881-8969 to reserve your spot!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Exercise Regularly:<\/strong>\u00a0 This one sounds like a drag, doesn&#8217;t it?\u00a0 The hardest part of starting an exercise routine is the first day.\u00a0 You don&#8217;t have to do a strenuous workout; start with a walk around the block!\u00a0 The South Arkansas Center on Aging and Healthworks Fitness Center have programs tailored toward older adults.\u00a0 Tai Chi, Drums Alive, and Senior Strength and Yoga classes are daily at Healthworks.\u00a0 Healthworks memberships do apply.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Keeping a Healthy Body Weight:<\/strong>\u00a0 This can be tough and overwhelming.\u00a0 Plus, we all have to eat.\u00a0 Having a food addiction is one of the toughest to deal with.\u00a0 By eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly, your BMI will go down.\u00a0 If you don&#8217;t know where to start, see your doctor to take the first steps.\u00a0 He or she will know your health history and can recommend a sensible eating plan and exercise routine.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Don&#8217;t Smoke:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think we all knew this one.\u00a0 It is extremely difficult to quit smoking.\u00a0 Fortunately, there are cessation aids for sale over the counter now.\u00a0 Nicotine patches, mints, gum, and more are readily available at any drug store.\u00a0 If those don&#8217;t appeal to you, see your doctor.\u00a0 There are medications that help and have been proven very effective.\u00a0 Some health insurance companies will pay the entire cost.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re ready to quit your smoking habit, see your doctor.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Don&#8217;t Drink too Much Alcohol:\u00a0<\/strong> A little red wine is good for you.\u00a0 One glass a day for women, two for men.\u00a0 But too much alcohol is not good for your body.\u00a0 Drinking too much puts you at risk for Anemia, Cancer, Cardiovascular disease, Cirrhosis, Dementia, Depression, Seizures, Gout and more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you are interested in learning more about healthy eating and exercise, join the South Arkansas Center on Aging and Healthworks Fitness Center on May 24th for Senior Health &amp; Fitness Day 2018.\u00a0 You will be able to observe and try the exercise programs we have for seniors, plus lunch provided by First Financial Bank and blood pressure checks and screenings by Walmart.\u00a0 You do NOT need to be a member of Healthworks to attend.<\/p>\n<p>Come get healthy, play some BINGO, have lunch and have FUN!\u00a0 Reservations are required for this FREE event.\u00a0 Call 870-881-8969 to reserve your spot!<\/p>\n<p>For more information about this study, visit\u00a0https:\/\/news.harvard.edu\/gazette\/story\/2018\/04\/5-healthy-habits-may-increase-life-expectancy-by-decade-or-more\/<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to a new study led by the Harvard T.H.
