Advanced Directive Workshop – Planning for Healthcare Decisions

El Dorado – Last night, August 14, 2018, the UAMS South Arkansas Center on Aging, Life Touch Hospice, and Courtyard Health & Rehab held a Caring Connections workshop about planning for important health care decisions for the future.  Caring Connections, a program of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO), is a national consumer engagement initiative to improve care at the end of life.

Although it is not a fun subject, it is something we all need to think about in order for our loved ones to make the decisions we want.  A Durable Power of Attorney, in which we make decisions about treatments, nutrition, hydration, and organ donation take the burden off of our loved ones.

The single most important thing is to have a dependable Healthcare Care Proxy who will be able to enforce our wishes and has copies of all documents.  Making sure all of our health care providers, attorney and clergy have our directives is also essential.
