Training for Dementia Care

Students who go through the Schmieding Home Caregiver Training Program get more than just the minimum information required to pass a CNA exam or “sit” with a person in the home. They acquire a wealth of knowledge about the aging process and skills required to effectively care for our growing aging population. Today in our In-Home Assistant class, students had the eye-opening opportunity to experience what its like to live with a few of the symptoms of Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia. This opportunity allows students to develop greater empathy for the people to whom they are offering care.
