Students Have Uplifting Experience

The Home Care Assistant students learned a valuable lesson last week in using a mechanical lift to care for a bed bound patient.  Each took their turn to be the patient, the caregiver or the assistant in learning proper use of equipment and procedures.  They also learned proper transferring skills between a regular chair and wheelchair.  The “patients” were given an opportunity for a stroll outside for some fresh air.    The hands-on teaching lab is an opportunity for the students to practice what they have been taught to prepare for the skills competency testing to pass the course and the Certified Nursing Assistant exam (if desired).  Good preparation for a career as a paraprofessional in healthcare is the first step to a new future.
