Support When YOU Need it Most

Jonesboro, AR ~ Catch phrases come and go, but there is one that has taken off recently that is worthy of sharing.  Have you found your “tribe?”  According to the Urban Dictionary a tribe is defined as a group of friends that becomes your family.  Some people refer to their own family as their tribe.  Another way to look at it is a group of “your people” that will always be there for you no matter what.  It is also defined by joining a group that allows you to feel like you are one of them – such as a drama club, a knitting circle or even a Bunco group. It’s always great to spend time with people who share your interests, who happily welcome you into their circle. It’s a very good feeling.

At the UAMS Center on Aging-Northeast and Schmeiding Caregiver Training Program, we want to invite you to join one of our Tribes to find support when you need it mostWe offer support groups in the areas of, COPD (Better Breathers Club), Prostate Cancer Peer Network and an Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group.

In a recent article by the Fearless Caregiver, they described a good support group as “a safe and comforting, honest and open place filled with wisdom, advice, shoulders to cry on and even laughter.”  They also talk about this being a good way to “find your tribe.”  We encourage you to join us on a monthly basis and find your people who understand and glean from your stories as well.

Schedule of Group meetings:

  • Prostate Cancer Peer Network – meets every 1st Thursday
  • Better Breathers COPD Support – meets every 1st Friday
  • Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group – moving to every 4th Wednesday starting in June.
